We hope you have had a fantastic half-term break and are looking forward to another term of exciting learning!
Our new book this half term is Brightstorm: A Sky-Ship Adventure by Vashti Hardy
Twins Arthur and Maudie Brightstorm receive word in Lontown that their famous explorer father has died in a failed attempt to reach the southernmost point in the world. Not only that, but he has been accused of stealing fuel before he died!
The twins don't believe the news, and they answer an ad to join a new attempt to reach South Polaris. It's their only hope of learning the truth ... and salvaging their family's reputation. As the winged ship Aurora sets sail, the twins must keep their wits about them and prove themselves worthy of the rest of the crew.
But will Arthur and Maudie find the answers they seek?
This fast-paced fantasy adventure will set our imaginations soaring as we write vivid setting descriptions, captivating narratives and persuasive leaflets.
In maths, we will be beginning to explore measurement by looking at area, length and perimeter, time and money. The MTC is fast approaching for our Year 4s so we will also be completing daily timetable practice.
Our science topic for our Year 4s is classification and habitats, where we will look at how we can group living things and how their habitats are changing. Our Year 5s will look at forces including gravity, air resistance and friction.
In history, our Year 4s will explore the world of the Vikings, whilst our Year 5s take a look at Doncaster’s rich railway history. In geography, Year 4 will be comparing Sheffield and Whitby and Year 5 will investigate the world of trade and economics.
In PE, we will be learning the skills needed to play tennis before building on these skills in cricket. Our PE day will be a Monday, so please come to school in the correct PE kit on this day. Hopefully the sun will be shining, and we will be able to go outside for PE as much as possible!
How can I help my child at home?
Make sure you read with your child at least 5 times per week
Help your child to complete their weekly spelling and handwriting homework to develop key skills
Ensure your child completes 20 minutes of Times Tables Rockstars each week to develop fluency and accuracy. Our Year 4s will complete their Multiplication Tables Check this year so please make sure you practice as much as possible. Please note – the Year 4 MTC testing window is Monday 2nd June to Friday 13th June.
Please make sure you complete your written and timetables homework weekly, five reads every week, arrive in the correct PE kit and have an attendance of 96% or above to be ‘In It To Win It’!
