Castle Hills Primary Academy

Mr Thompson (Y6)

We would like to welcome you all back to school after another busy academic year. We hope that you have had a peaceful, restful, and enjoyable summer, and feel refreshed for new challenges ahead. Over the coming term, Year 6 will be focusing on the Ancient Greeks in History, as well as geographical concepts including locational knowledge and human and physical aspects. This year is one of the most important as all their learning at Castle Hills is focused on their SATs in the summer. This year will be both challenging and rewarding as they hone their skills ready for the adventure that is High school. In Year 6, they are able to produce extended writes across numerous genres. They will use all their skills from Year 1 all the way to Year 6 to create their final pieces that showcase all their skills. In Maths, children will focus on place value and the main calculation methods needed in Year 6. They will solve problems involved in everyday life, including money, weight, capacity, and volume. In Science, children will focus on living things, classifying big and small. They will look back, understand, and study the work of Carl Linnaeus. It will be a very busy but equally enjoyable term for the children, and I am sure that they will rise to the challenges set before them.

Our class novel is ‘The final year’, which is written by Matt Goodfellow’.  "A beautiful story of friendship, family, grief, falling apart and putting yourself back together again. "A powerful story, told in verse, about finding your voice, your place and people.
